Hello! Man I haven't posted here in forever.

Just in case you don't follow my art journal over at [livejournal.com profile] theopteryx, there are a couple of [livejournal.com profile] thegaystarfish pictures that have popped up recently. A doodle drop, a sketch of Frank and Gerard under the sea, and last night's half-experiment where I redrew one of the pages from the first chapter. Links all take you to the posts on [livejournal.com profile] theopteryx, all are safe for work.

So I have been a fan of [livejournal.com profile] glockgal's FOREVER, right, and a little while ago she opened her queue up for a limited number of commissions, so I had to jump in. And make her draw [livejournal.com profile] thegaystarfish characters (AS I DO). She posted it today and it is seriously ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE and I am so happy with it. You should check it out too! It's absolutely incredible! I already said that but I don't care! GO LOOK! :D

Link to picture! Frank/Gerard, moopverse. Safe for work.

HELLO hello hello! So two weeks ago in the final chapter of [livejournal.com profile] thegaystarfish there was a very unsubtle (we don't do subtle here! no room for subtle!) hint to go check out another livejournal community. It wasn't actually an offshoot or sequel, but a secret contest, and I am here to announce the winners!

THE WINNERS and their winning entries! )

You can check out all of the contest entrants here, and you should, because they are all AMAZING. Winners, if you could please comment here with an email address so I can contact you to get your shipping address for your prizes, that would be awesome! And since I had SUCH a hard time picking winners for this one, everybody who entered the contest gets a free doodle snail mailed to them of the character of their choice. Comment here with your email too! :)

Thanks guys! You are wonderful. ♥

You guys! You guyyyyys. Check out [livejournal.com profile] quimvaa's fanart she did for Book Two, which you can see here (the third picture in the post). Frank/Gerard, safe for work.

It is amazing! She has the coolest style ever! I CAN'T STOP STARING AT THEIR HANDS. Anyway, go check it out! Ahhh, seriously, I am so happy, fanart is so A+ awesome. ♥

(status update: last chapter is penciled but inking is taking forever. SOMEONE COME HELP ME INK. :|)
[identity profile] theopteryx.livejournal.com
I want you guys to know that the .08 seconds of googling I did to make sure that gelato was actually around in the vague 1700's (.08 seconds of googling tells me that indeed it was, go go ~gelato) remains the most amount of historical research I have ever actually done for this comic. WHAT, you say, I AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED.

Anyway, I'm gearing up for the last chapter (what will I do afterwards! who even knows!) and it's been so long I'm trying to get back into a gay starfish kind of mind. So here is a random doodle. Frank/Gerard, set sometime between the first and second book, during one of the times Frank dragged Gerard back to land to visit his parents or something.

I honestly don't know how to rate something like this. Uhm, it's work-safe but there's some innuendo? :D?

yum yum yum yum. )

[livejournal.com profile] submissionadict totally surprised me by sending me a little Moopverse necklace in the mail with amazing little sculpey characters!

my shitty camera really doesn't show how cute these things are, omg )

AND [livejournal.com profile] terriblyangsty sent me some UH-MAZING Lionfish Lyn-Z fanart! I love them.

Lionfish Lyn-Z! Three pictures, all safe for work. )

Seriously, thank so much. I am continually blown away by you guys. ♥

I just got back from a little vacation (thanks for the pizza and cupcakes, Chicago!) and along the way I got to meet a bunch of really awesome people. This also included getting to make grabby hands at [livejournal.com profile] keraha along the way (I FANGIRL HER SO HARD JSYK). She is the one who made the Frank and Gerard statues that some of you guys asked about that were in the background of the nerdy raffle spam post, which you can see better here and here. She surprised me with a little moop statue and a pair of moopverse earrings and they are the CUTEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN. I am not nearly so awesome so I had no idea she was going to be so generous so I repaid her with crappy doodles of Frank fangirling her and a naked dancing robot. Classiest~!

Moving on! Here are some pictures. I practically cradled the little Moop to my chest to make sure he didn't get broken on the plane ride home (and he didn't! Hooray!).

cut for pictures of statue and earrings )

p.s. [livejournal.com profile] iamsupernova showed me this picture of a top that is TOTALLY Lyn-Z the Lionfish's style. Om nom.
[identity profile] theopteryx.livejournal.com
Hooray! The pictures for the raffle drawing winners are all bundled up and on their way to the mail slot. I don't usually post raffle pictures but I had a LOT of fun with these. I love love love working in ink. I hope you guys like them too!

Remember, winners, if you don't want to see yours before it comes to you in the mail be sure to skip this post! Your picture will be hopefully be there (su)soon! :)

cut for five pictures. Spencer+Brendon, Lyn-Z, Frank+Jamia, Frank, and Frank/Gerard. All safe for work! )

The next month is looking a little crazy on the RL end so there might be another bit of a wait before the final chapter. I figured you guys are pretty used to ridiculous waits between chapters by this point, though, hahaha. One of these days I'll get it together! Thanks, as always, for your patience. ♥

Gerard: hiiiiiiiiii
Frank: hiiiiiii
Gerard: hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Frank: hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Gerard: wasn't there something we were supposed to do today?
Frank: probably. i can't remember. your tiny moss suit onesie is just so freakin' adorable
Gerard: well your tiny buckles are adorable
Frank: no your face
Gerard: no YOUR face

cut for the rest of the story, aka lol I have way too much time on my hands and way too many random plastic figurines, apparently, but I swear the answers to the raffle are under here )

I haven't done one of these in FOREVER and, hell, I want to do one.

Comments are screened! Comment here with your email address and favorite moopverse character/characters. I'll close the post tomorrow (Friday) night and pick five winners out of a hat. I'll email the winners to get their shipping addresses and then I'll send you a little hand-drawn doodle of your preferred character at no charge to you! It will be fun! I will probably draw excited jellyfish on the envelope! Hooray!

THIS POST IS CLOSED! Thanks guys. Winners will be up asap! :) :) :)

Here is a very simple and hastily sketched computer doodle of Frank to try and distract you guys from the fact that it has been forever since a new comic. :D? :D? :D?

Frank is not impressed. )

[livejournal.com profile] wethepainted did a piece of awesome fanart for the second book of the comic, which you can see here. Work-safe! Also COMPLETELY ADORABLE. ♥____♥

New comic is in the works! RL is sort of crazy and [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang prompts are up so I'm not sure when it'll be finished, but hopefully soon! In the meantime you should come hang out over here and play in the Black Parade Mary-Sue Art Meme cough cough *completely unsubtle* >:).

I got a few questions as to why [livejournal.com profile] theopteryx and [livejournal.com profile] thegaystarfish had strikethroughs over the past day. This is what's up.

It was brought to my attention that my fan art, pages of this comic, and links directly to this community were being Tweeted to all of the band members. I know some of the intentions were good (and some, I honestly don't know) but, regardless, I don't draw fan art and this comic so that boys in a band will see them. I draw them for fandom. For fun. Some people don't mind the complete lack of fourth wall bandom has, but I am one of the ones who does, and I'm not comfortable with that situation.

So, until I figure out what I'm going to do, both journals will stay completely locked down. I'm a weirdo, I know, and overly paranoid, but if you want to show them your own fan art, that's fine. I just don't want them to see mine (regardless of rating or paring). I also realize that there is, truly, nothing I CAN do to stop someone from showing them this stuff, if they want, and it is part of the package deal you get when you decide to start posting things to the internet. Is what it is.

If I do know anything, though, it's that I have spent over a year and a half working on this silly comic and having the time of my life with everyone in this silly community and talking about these silly, silly little characters, and like hell am I going to stop with two chapters to go until the end. Just bear with me until I straighten things out a bit on this end, bbs, and I'll be back soon.

Yaaaay it's here! Moop merch! Moop merch is here! :D

Click here to see the Moop Merch!

1. This is only the first batch of designs! I will have some more up in the next couple of weeks (and hopefully a shoe design, omg!). Feel free to suggest other designs that you would like to see. I cannot promise I will make every design suggested, but I would love to hear what kind of merch you would like to see in the shop!

2. Zazzle is one of those sites where you can customize the designs for ANY of their t-shirts or whatever. So if you see one of the t-shirt designs that you like but NOT the kind of t-shirt it's on, that is totally okay! Just click the 'customize' button and the 'shirt options' and you can choose the kind of shirt that would work best for you. Same with the sweatshirt (you can put the SILF design on t-shirts!) and mugs and buttons and such.

3. There are two designs that you cannot see in the public marketplace. These are the designs for the DOOT DOOT t-shirt and the gay starfish humping the coffee mug. The reason for this is that I had to put the 'rating' on these two items up to a PG-13 because if I didn't and I got caught I'd get in trouble (the doot doot shirt has the word 'FUCK' on it and the gay starfish is....humping a coffee mug), so. You can see those if you sign up with zazzle and have an account. I'm including pictures of the two items in case you'd like to check them out and see if they're the merch for you.

doot doot shirt and gay starfish mug! )

Two more fun links for you today --

[livejournal.com profile] never_coming_bk posted pictures and a video of some very Brian-esque earrings she found in Claire's!

[livejournal.com profile] whenwill_love sent me a link to the shirt of the day over at Woot Shirt which looks like someone was just CHANNELING Brian! Who knew grumpy narwhals could be such fashion gurus! Hahaha. The shirt changes every night on the site so I took screencaps of it just in case it switched over before you could get a peek!

He does not approve! )

Hold on tight, snookians! The new chapter should be up either tonight or sometime tomorrow. :)

Sometimes you guys send me links to the GREATEST THINGS EVER and I love them but I really really had to share this one. From [livejournal.com profile] delendas: CNN.com has an article about scientists recording a strange unidentified noise which they have described as 'Bloop.' The article states that "it is too big for a whale and one theory is that it is a deep sea monster, possibly a many-tentacled giant squid."

MOOP MOOP'S COUSIN, PERHAPS? He has an accent, don't make fun. :(

Also, from [livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn: Jennifer Connelly rocks the moss suit chic. Somewhere out there Gerard is seething with jealousy.

I have been in an art funk lately where any time I try to draw anything remotely complicated it backfires COMPLETELY. I know it is all part of the learning process but gaaaah frustrating. Here is a loose and easy and not even remotely complicated picture of Gerard that I did for fun. Safe for work, full picture under the cut.

Click for full picture. )

I nailed down the outline for the remaining chapters of the sequel and it looks like there's going to be three more chapters until the end. Thanks for still reading along! New chapter will be up soon. :)
